Kelly Lee Owens (DJ Set)
London-based producer, songwriter, and musician Kelly Lee Owens, who stands out with productions that bring ambient and minimal techno, techno-pop, and dream-pop together in her distinctive sound, comes to Babylon on April 25 with her DJ set!
About Kelly Lee Owens:
During her high school years, Kelly Lee Owens earned two certificates: one as “music lover of the year” and the other as “dreamer of the year.” This dreaminess, which her mother called “Kelly’s World,” has turned her into one of the respected names pushing the ethereal and emotional boundaries of electronic music. Her latest album, Dreamstate, is a manifesto dedicated to dreaming and healing by looking higher. The album is also the debut release of dh2, Dirty Hit’s new electronic music label founded by George Daniel of The 1975.
Growing up among the Celtic landscapes of North Wales, Owens says that her connection with nature is one of the main sources of inspiration for her music. Initially turning to nursing to use her empathy, Owens found the courage to pursue music while working at a cancer hospital, encouraged by patients to “follow your true dream.”
Her introduction to analog synthesizers was a turning point; techno’s repetitive structure and emotional intuition offered her limitless room for expression. Dreamstate, shaped in the aftermath of the pandemic and a breakup, tells the story of an inner journey from heartbreak to healing. For Owens, the album represents the element of “air”: a state of collective dreaming, rising, and transforming together.
As one of the rare female figures in the techno scene, Owens emphasizes that dreaming is vital, especially for those who grew up without support: “Give yourself permission to dream bigger.”
