Hayat
After being murdered along with the baby she carried, Life finds herself in a realm akin to the Limbo of human imagination, facing Pandora, Medusa, and Lamia. These three women, once punished, cursed, and transformed into monsters, have over millennia adopted the language of the stories told about them, becoming, knowingly or unknowingly, embodiments of the very system that created them. Confronted by their judgments, Life takes on the forms of women from different eras and walks of life, grappling with the conflicting expectations placed upon womanhood. However, she ultimately realizes that the true power lies not in men, but in an ancient system of power that permeates everything from myths to religions, from family to everyday language – a system that exists within us all. She then explains how this mechanism of oppression becomes ingrained within the human psyche. Accepting that she cannot change the world, Life reminds us that femininity represents a great opportunity for humanity to learn to create rather than dominate, to make space for others rather than seeking ownership. Finally, she turns her gaze from the mythological figures to the audience. Because the stories that sustain this Limbo will not remain confined to the stage; they will return home with us all when the play is over…
How many different ways can a woman be wrong? If she is silent, she is insignificant; if she speaks, she is arrogant; if she loves, she is sentimental; if she leaves, she is ungrateful; if she knows, she is conceited; if she doesn't know, she is ignorant; if she desires, she is immoral; if she gives up, she is bigoted... First, we wrote their stories. Then, we believed them. Finally, we wanted women to resemble those stories. Now, in "The Barzakh," four women are facing each other; one has already been killed, and no one remembers how the other three died. This time, life will not be content with just listening to the stories. Because now, it is aware that Hell is, in reality, this world where we fail to build the paradise we could have.
