Güzel Son
Orhan Veli, Melih Cevdet, Nurullah Ataç, Sait Faik, Suat Derviş, Halim Şefik, Lambo and A Beautiful Ending That We All Actually Need...
Halim Şefik Güzelson has invited his friends Orhan Veli, Melih Cevdet, Sait Faik, and Nurullah Ataç to the tavern of Monsieur Lambo, which is their regular spot. On the back of the signed invitations, there is a note; “Please Come Without Drinking!” The chance visit of Suat Derviş to the tavern makes the night even more special. Now, the only missing element for the night is a surprising “Beautiful Ending.”
As part of the 26th IKSV Theater Festival, we continue to stage the play “Beautiful Ending,” written by Hakan Tabakan, which tells the story of Istanbul through the worlds of characters like Orhan Veli Kanık, Melih Cevdet Anday, Nurullah Ataç, Sait Faik Abasıyanık, Suat Derviş, and Halim Şefik Güzelson, brought to life as the “Istanbul Mon Amour” project designed by Işıl Kasapoğlu 30 years ago.
The playwright Hakan Tabakan writes; “Orhan Veli, Melih Cevdet, Nurullah Ataç, Sait Faik, Suat Derviş, Halim Şefik, Lambo and actually a beautiful ending that we all need... It’s not a new saying that life is temporary but art and literature are eternal. Poets die, poems live. This is not a comforting word. We now only know these people through their works, but yes, they had worries, sorrows, joys, and beautiful days too. Some lived long, some only saw 35, but they all died young. So what if Orhan, Melih, Nurullah, Sait, Suat, Şefik were still alive and met one evening at Lambo's tavern, and we were there too... Wouldn't that be a more beautiful ending?”
