How can a legacy be transmitted, transformed, and made visible again?

Founded in 2003 by Mustafa Kaplan and Filiz Sızanlı, Taldans has opened a new chapter in the contemporary dance scene in Turkey with its productions that explore the intersection of the body, space, mathematics, rhythm, and play.

In "I Don't Remember What I Forgot Last," the choreographers draw inspiration from the play "They Shot Me Inside Troy," which was archived approximately thirty years ago by the Theater Research Laboratory (TAL). Established in 1988 within the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality City Theaters, TAL was a pioneering experimental research unit led by director and educator Beklan Algan. It operated until 2002, playing a significant role in the development of a unique acting language rooted in the performance traditions of Anatolia, and eventually establishing a new school of thought.

This study re-examines the experimental theater legacy of TAL within the context of today's aesthetic and political landscape, interpreting historical texts, movement practices, and spatial dramaturgy through the lens of the body. The archive, rather than being a fixed record, transforms into a creative space that evolves and generates new encounters with each interaction and question.
