Dorian Gray'in Portresi

PROMOTION/INTRODUCTION/ADVERTISEMENT (The best translation depends on the context.)

A production by Zorlu Performing Arts Center, directed by Mehmet Birkiye. The Portrait of Dorian Gray. The play, which is having its premiere as part of the 30th Istanbul Theatre Festival, will also be the festival's closing performance. It will be staged at the Zorlu Performing Arts Center throughout the season.

Oscar Wilde, his only novel. The Portrait of Dorian Gray.In his manifesto, he sharply criticized the Victorian-era reader, stating that "art actually reflects the audience itself, not life," and caused a significant uproar by rejecting the era's hypocritical and rigid moral values.

Kerem Kurdoğlu and Mehmet Birkiye, when adapting the novel for the stage, start from this very idea, rewriting the work as a free adaptation, utilizing the expressive possibilities of performing arts. However, perhaps in this way, they come closer to the essence of the work, delving into its core. This dark story, with its captivating fantasy elements, also opens the door to philosophical discussions surrounding concepts such as beauty, lost youth, aestheticism, hedonism, sin, morality, and evil.

A captivating and dynamic adaptation, featuring the performances of Salih Bademci, Engin Hepileri, and Yiğit Sertdemir, awaits festival audiences, offering a profound portrayal of modern-day individuals.
