Devrinin Adamı / A Man of His Time

An ordinary, average man succumbs to the banality of evil and goes down in history as a forgettable, shameful, and utterly unremarkable bad person. The film, which won the Best Screenplay award at Cannes, tells the story of Henri Marre, who, during World War II, served the fascist Vichy regime in southern France with his own free will. The director, Emmanuel Marre, who also wrote the screenplay, brings his great-grandfather's story to the screen, a man who prioritized efficiency and patriotism above all else, blindly following orders and pushing the boundaries of morality. The film is inspired by his great-grandfather's writings, including his manifestos and letters.
