Dansöz
"Dansöz" is the story of a woman named Meryem, set in the East.
We are exploring a story about the act of looking. We are trying to consider the theoretical field of theater, which has been defined by the act of looking since ancient Greece (theatron meaning "the place where one looks/watches"), along with the different schools of thought within the field. We are investigating what the act of looking means when it takes place in a space specifically designed for observing, and within a particular context.
This time, we wanted the stage to turn and face us.
Throughout the process, the writings of philosophers like Merleau-Ponty, Sartre, and Lacan, who wrote about "gaze," were a constant source of inspiration. However, our goal was not to create a separate space for philosophical thought, but rather to transform the experience created by the game itself into a form of thought.
Drawing inspiration from seminal works like "The Sexual Politics" by Kate Millett, we are embarking on a new path with "Dansöz," a project that connects the stories of animals and women. We are exploring the blurred lines between the act of breaking an animal's will and the act of suppressing a woman's will.
The story of a dancer, an oriental woman who transformed her art into a way of life.
