The CRR Turkish Music Ensemble invites you to an evening where you will be introduced to the works of prominent composers who lived in Istanbul during the same era as Osman Hamdi Bey and Fausto Zonaro, and who shared the same cultural environment. Osman Hamdi Bey (1842-1910), one of the most important Ottoman intellectuals of the Tanzimat period, shaped the artistic life of his time with his roles as an archaeologist, museum director, painter, playwright, and bureaucrat. The master artist, son of İbrahim Edhem Paşa, founded the Sanayi-i Nefise School, which formed the foundation of today's Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, and served as its first director, continuing to serve as the Director of the Archaeology Museum until his death.

During the same period, the Italian painter Fausto Zonaro (1854-1929) arrived in Istanbul in 1891 and was appointed as a court painter in 1896. For 19 years, he lived in this captivating city and captured its people and streets on canvas in his studio on Akaretler Hill. These years, during which both artists left their mark on Istanbul, coincided with a significant transformation in Turkish music, as the classical style gradually gave way to a new and dynamic approach that emphasized songs.

The CRR Turkish Music Ensemble, which has been operating under the roof of the CRR Concert Hall within the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality for 16 years, is led by its conductor and oud player, Hakan Talu. The ensemble, which aims to introduce young people to society as future artists, features both established guest artists and conservatory students as vocalists and instrumentalists in its concerts.
