ÇATALCA BİNKILIÇ YEŞİL TÜNEL YÜRÜYÜŞÜ
✅ ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
BINKILICH VILLAGE – WHERE HISTORY AND NATURE CONVERGE.
Former name. Strandja. The village of Binkılıç, with its historical background and lush nature, is one of the noteworthy settlements in Thrace. The village's name was officially established in 1960 through a law. Binkılıç. It has been changed to.
A History Filled with Heroism.
According to accounts passed down by the elderly residents of the village who participated in the Gallipoli Campaign, there was a group of approximately 1,000 armed individuals who protected the Strandscha region and its surroundings during that time. Consequently, the village became a symbol of resistance and solidarity in the region.
During the Balkan Wars, some surrounding villages were occupied. However, thanks to the strong resistance shown by the villagers of Binkılıç, the enemy forces were unable to enter the village. Because the village was never officially occupied, there is no officially recognized liberation day celebrated.
🌍 Migration and Cultural Structure.
Following the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878 and the Balkan Wars, significant population movements occurred in the region. After the Greek population living in the village migrated to Greece, Pomak communities from the Balkans, primarily from Bulgaria, settled in Binkılıç.
Today, a significant portion of the rural population is made up of citizens of Pomak origin. While the Pomak language was more widely spoken in the past, its use has become increasingly limited as the number of speakers has declined over time.
Our trail, with its moderate difficulty level, is also suitable for those new to hiking. The trail is approximately... 5-6 stream crossings. The activity will involve traversing natural tunnels formed by lush trees and peaceful forest trails.
On this enjoyable walk, we will experience the unique atmosphere of Binkılıç, where history, culture, and nature coexist.
