"Arsenic and Old Lace" is a comedy written by Joseph Kesselring, and it is one of the most frequently performed plays in theaters around the world.
The two elderly women, the protagonists of the story, live a secluded life in a mansion with their nephews, renting out a small, single-occupancy room daily. They believe they have discovered a chemical formula that can bring happiness to lonely people, whom they see as reflections of their own unhappiness and feel sorry for. They believe that those who consume the raspberry liqueur they have laced with poison will peacefully pass away.
