Do you know about the stone wall?
Iron gate, blind window.
My pillow, my bunk bed, my chains.
For the sake of which I would go and come back, even risking my life.
The sad picture in my drawer.
My interviewer sent me some green onions.
My cigarette smells like cloves.
Spring has arrived in my homeland, bringing life to its mountains.
I am Ahmed. I am Ahmed, trying to take a breath in these lands where injustice, unfairness, and death are rampant. These are lands of a thousand blessings, innocent and nurturing. They open their heart to you, they sustain you. They don't get angry, they don't hold grudges. They don't turn their backs on you. They don't betray. You give them your love, and they give you the world. I have no problems with the land itself. My problems are with what lies beneath the ground, and with those who live above it. With those who live without understanding or love. With my brothers, my friends, those I love, who cannot embrace me. Yet, how much I love this country. I love these people, these mountains, these stones. I love these beliefs, these cultures. Oh God, what a richness! Oh God...
This is a kind of poverty hidden within wealth.
