High Agricultural Institute Campus (Faculty of Agriculture, Ankara University).

Zübeyde Hanım Mahallesi, Dışkapı, Altındağ
Altındağ, Ankara

About Venue

The agriculture and veterinary campus at Dışkapı was founded when the Ankara Higher School of Agriculture, opened in 1930, became the Higher Institute of Agriculture on 30 October 1933; modelled on German agricultural faculties, it joined Ankara University in 1948 and remained the country's only faculty of agriculture until 1955. The first campus plan was drawn by a German architect named Baurat Naht; when he left, design and construction passed entirely to Ernst Egli, and the buildings were completed in 1933. A pedestrian axis starts at the western end, climbs a monumental stair and passes beneath the old Rectorate; four three-storey buildings line it symmetrically. The Rectorate, two storeys over a half basement with a deep-eaved portico, is one of the best examples of Egli's plain, rational manner.
