About Venue
Two steps behind the cafe lanes of Hamamönü there is a quiet courtyard made up of the mosque, tomb and guest house of a Bayrami lodge founded in the 17th century. Mehmet Akif Ersoy wrote the Turkish national anthem in 1921 while staying in that guest house, which is now the poet's museum house. The small cemetery in the courtyard holds figures such as İhsan Doğramacı, founder of Hacettepe University. The mosque is a plain Ottoman building; what moves you is the silence of the courtyard and the story of the place.
