About Venue
The 24-storey, 76 metre glass tower at 117 Atatürk Boulevard on Kızılay Square is regarded as Turkey's first skyscraper and the first use of a glass curtain wall in the country. Designed by Enver Tokay and İlhan Tayman with structural engineering by Yusuf Berdan, it was built in 1959-65 as an income property for the Pension Fund and was Ankara's tallest building when finished. Its slim tower on a low podium, inspired by Lever House and the United Nations Secretariat in New York, brought the first vertical to the low Yenişehir of the Jansen plan. It was sold in privatisation on 8 March 2006 and renamed Kahramanlar Business Centre in 2015. Private property; the facade is viewed from the pavement.
