Atpazarı Slope and Koyunpazarı Slope.
Altındağ, Ankara
About Venue
Atpazarı, the horse-market square in front of the main gate of Ankara Castle, and the cobbled Koyunpazarı slope that climbs to it from Samanpazarı are two names left over from the market layout of Ottoman Ankara. They were two of the city's roughly thirty bazaars and market places; even in the early Republic the markets ran up towards the Castle in order, from Arabapazarı, Odunpazarı and Samanpazarı to Koyunpazarı, Atpazarı and Ekinpazarı. Koyunpazarı held the saddlers' and shoemakers' bazaar; today its narrow lanes hold antique dealers and craft workshops. Ahi Elvan Mosque stands on the way up, and the 16th and 17th century inns Çengelhan and Çukurhan face the square at the top, where the slope ends at the Castle gate.
