Ali Dayı Çocuk Kütüphanesi

A two-storey house with a garden on Nene Hatun Street. The retired governor Hamdullah Şükrü Kenanoğlu donated it to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 1985 on condition that it serve children, asking that it carry the name of his spiritual father, "Ali Dayı". In 2010 the Ministry reorganised the house and reopened it as the "first model children's library". The ground floor is the pre-school section for ages three to seven and the upper floor the primary section for ages seven to fourteen; the garden is arranged like an open-air classroom with birdhouses, tables fitted with magnifiers and a glass easel. A baby section was added later; the collection is around sixteen thousand books. Membership is through the shared system of the Ministry's public libraries, free and on presentation of ID, opened by a parent for children under fifteen.
