About Venue
Abdi İpekçi Park is a city park on Sıhhiye Square, right beside the Sıhhiye station of the M1 metro, opened in 1981; it was previously called Yenişehir Park and was renamed in memory of the journalist Abdi İpekçi. Sources give its area as between 33,000 and 37,000 square metres. With its broad lawns, ornamental pool, tea garden and children's playground it is one of the few large green spaces in the heart of the city centre. Its emblem is the bronze Hands sculpture by Metin Yurdanur, dated 1979, showing two hands reaching for the sky; the artist restored the work himself in 2022. The park was fully redesigned in 2023. On weekdays it is a lunchtime meeting point for people working nearby.
