50. Yıl Parkı

50. Yıl Park is a municipal park of more than 130,000 square metres on the hill above Ankara University's Cebeci campus. According to Wikipedia it opened in 1970, took its name from the Republic's fiftieth anniversary and was renovated and reopened in 2009. Thanks to its elevation the park takes in most of Ankara in a single view and is promoted by the municipality as the capital's viewing terrace, with telescope viewpoints and a tea garden at the highest spot. There are two ponds, streams and a three tier waterfall, an open air theatre, an ice rink, children's playgrounds and sports pitches. What identifies the park from afar is the giant flagpole, whose height sources give as between 110 and 120 metres.
