Founded in Ankara in 1977 by Derya Köroğlu, Zerrin Yaşar, and Selim Atakan, Yeni Türkü (which translates to "New Folk") took its name from the poet and writer Yaşar Miraç. Yeni Türkü is a musical movement originating in South America, based on reinterpreting folk songs. Combining modern and traditional instruments with a Western song structure, and infused with the spirit of the Aegean and Mediterranean regions, Yeni Türkü continues to connect with its audience.
