Ve Ateş Bizi Tüketiyor

We are searching for an old man who is lost in the streets of Istanbul at night. A radio crackles, faces blur, houses shift, and time fractures.

Based on the novel of the same name by Murat Gülsoy, one of the most beloved and widely read authors in Turkish literature, this is a free adaptation written by Müge Oskay. And the Fire Consumes Us.It's a game of old songs, midnight knocks on the door, recurring dreams, searches, and disappearances.

Murat Gülsoy's novel, which explores themes of memory, identity, and the boundaries of reality, takes on a new form on stage through Müge Oskay's adaptation. Familiar streets within the city and the labyrinth of memory become part of a dreamlike landscape. A captivating play awaits festival audiences, employing a rich stage language encompassing mask and puppet design, music, choreography, and lighting.

With over half a century of experience as an actor, director, and educator, and having served as the festival's curator for three terms since 2024, Mehmet Birkiye brings the play to the stage as a dark journey through time, exploring the interplay between the past and the present, forgetting and remembering, and the shifting identities of "I" and "He." Birkiye, who has directed more than 30 plays in both subsidized and private theaters, received the Istanbul Theater Festival Honorary Award in 2023 and the Yapı Kredi Afife Theater Awards Special Award in 2025.
