Şairin Kayığı
The play is narrated from the perspective of a storyteller who describes himself not as an "ordinary boatman," but as a "companion to poets." This boat, in the traditional sense, doesn't transport passengers to the other side; instead, it brings together prominent figures of Turkish poetry (Can Yücel, Edip Cansever, İlhan Berk, İsmet Özel, Tomris Uyar, Ece Ayhan, Nilgün Marmara, Ülkü Tamer, and Sezai Karakoç) around the same table. The "passengers" don't have luggage, but rather carry unfinished lines of poetry and the memories of their childhoods. Throughout the play, these poets discuss the nature of poetry, life, death, their fathers, loneliness, and their homeland, each using their unique style. In the end, the narrator realizes that he is not a boatman at all, but rather a "listener" to these individuals who are repairing memories. He concludes the play by gesturing to the empty chair at the table, offering it to the audience (the reader).
