For the 9th edition of İzmir Gastrofest, we have chosen "Food and Memory" as our theme. Food is not just a necessity; it's a carrier of memory, reflecting identity, culture, and the passage of time. Within a single dish, you find not only ingredients, but also migrations, family, stories, geographies, and rituals passed down through generations. Each recipe is a form of remembrance.

The essence of food lies in the vivid connection it creates with the past. The relationship between food and memory begins at this stage. The food we consume individually contributes to the collective memory and nourishes it. This is achieved through the cultural context of food, which draws from history and geography. This year, by focusing on the theme of "Food and Memory," we aim to offer our participants not only a sensory experience but also an emotional and cultural journey. We will strive to create a strong connection between the past and the present through traditional recipes reinterpreted by chefs, the rediscovery of local flavors, and talks and events that bring together the culinary memories of different regions.

And thanks to social media, we can now access recipes from different cuisines around the world, and we learn how to cook not from our mothers, but from recipes themselves.

Today, we will also discuss the question of "What is the relationship between food and memory?" and explore the answers together.

We will start with talks, film screenings, panel discussions, and even live podcasts, and we'll make your day vibrant with tastings of delicious products from restaurants and meals prepared by our chefs. We look forward to meeting you at İzmir Gastrofest on October 25th.
