A promissory note from a wedding night in Yeniköy in the 19th century, which has survived to the present day, is the central element of this play.
In Yeniköy, Nikolaos and Sevasti Mumcis, residents of the Panayia neighborhood, made a declaration in the presence of the priest and the local administrator regarding the marriage of their daughter, Carolina, to Antonios Angelidis, a shopkeeper from Paşabahçe. According to the official document, Carolina's dowry consisted of seventy Ottoman Liras, twelve towels, twelve linen tablecloths, three woolen dresses, a fur coat, a mirror, and a chest.
129 years later, the same document is being read aloud within a church established by a decree of Sultan Mahmud II, within the walls of a structure itself born from another document, and in the presence of its owners. In this ceremony, nothing is imitated; the document is simply read. The audience becomes a witness to this reading. The records of ownership, labor, fear, and silence resonate within the stone walls, echoing into the present day.
